I have just stumbled across this website by accident. The quality of the
documentation is very good and the consistent outline for every paper is
nice to see.
I will continue to visit from now on.

July 19, 2004:
I was a long time subscriber to JOOP and was sorry
to see it cease publication. I stumbled onto JOT while looking
up references
to Richard
Wiener's book "Fundamentals of OOP and Data Structures in Java".
Now
that I have discovered it, I will read through the past issues
(fortunately just 2 years worth) and look forward to reading future
issues as they are published. Thanks for keeping this corner of
the OO world alive!

I'm extremely impressed with the quality of JOT. It encourages
me to think more deeply about my work than I normally would.

Colleagues have forwarded several articles to me from JOT because
of writing I've done for O'Reilly and elsewhere you have
a great journal. I look forward to reading it regularly.

January 3, 2003:
It seems to me that our embedded field is still catching up to
the desktop field as far as OOD is concerned. Many of us are
only starting to shift towards the object oriented way. Of course,
there are still only a handfull of books that can fill this niche
[Douglass][Gomma]. I am hoping to gain some insights from the
experts in this publication in the future.

Apparently, this is a relatively new site. If so, it is long overdue,
and I congratulate you for its conception.

Congratulations for launching the Journal of Object Technology.
Such a publication has long been due.
I would also like to congratulate Dave Thomas
for his excellent article on "The Deplorable
State of Class Libraries". It is long since
I've had the same experience with commercial class libraries and publishing
such an analysis would help the research community to acknowledge
the challenges.

June 6, 2002:
Greetings JOT!
Best of luck for your essential new magazine. In
response to your article "Adding Dynamic Interfaces
to Smalltalk" I'd like to offer a reference
to a somewhat different approach to defining
types and interfaces in Smalltalk and other
dynamic languages, as presented at http://members.fcc.net/panu/SmalltalkTypes.htm.
The basic idea behind "SmalltalkTypes" is
that every Smalltalk class can be interpreted
as a definition of a type, when some some
simple naming conventions for arguments
and return expressions are adopted.
Mostly the conventions proposed closely
mirror already existing practice. I'd urge
your readers to have a look at this alternative
- simpler, yet perhaps even more expressive
- approach to defining types in Smalltalk.
Best Regards
Panu Viljamaa, panu@fcc.net

I'm a die-hard Eiffel fan who's never used it! I've read OOSC2
and loved it; I read the Eiffel literature and mailing lists,
but sadly have neither time nor money to experience it ...
Microsoft is free in the workplace and essential in the job
market ... the .NET initiative is interesting and the new MS
languages are a step in the right direction, but now even VB
has joined the C++/Java family and their inferior interpretation
of OO compared to the Eiffel language and method. The "real
world" for me is one compromise after another. Every success
to Eiffel!
