Dear Readers,

We start the 2005 publishing year with columns by Dave Thomas, Anthony Simons, Don Firesmith, John McGregor and Douglas Lyon. In addition we have, as always in the first issue of a new year, Charles Ashbacher’s best books of the previous year. Because of end-of-year trips or other work assignments, some of our regular columnists are not present in this issue but expect to be back in the March/April issue.

I thank all our columnists for their diligence in meeting our sometimes unpleasant deadlines and most importantly for the quality of their contributions. I look forward to their continued contributions in 2005.

In addition to these columns we have six papers by authors from all around the world.
